Reinvent-tage Day 16 - Part 2

Today's Intention...experiment further...imitate...

So today...I am going to copy something I love...who will it be?!?!?

the sketch

the sketch darkened

had to break out the bad-boy heavy body acrylics to get texture

after painting 1 hour

after painting 2 hours

but of course...i chose vincent...a self-portrait...I need to challenge myself...push my limits...and this certainly did

van gogh's short, stippled brush strokes are difficult to do...the background was challenging also...all that swirling...i had a hard time getting enough paint on my brush...i tend to paint very washy, so full out gobs of paint was way out of my comfort zone...his beard and right eye gave me fits...his flesh is sort of greenish in the original...since this was a small canvas, i had to use a tiny, few-haired brush...also not in my comfort zone...

this is stretching me and my skill...i love it...it is not done by any means...but is is a good start...

my laptop is having big issues...so i am having to back everything up in hopes of reformating the hard drive...i usually blog from there are blogger has big issues with my mac...all i can do is type and upload photos on the mac...no spell check, color changes, font changes, etc...please bear with me...and pray that i can fix the laptop...

Wow - It's really, really good! Here, this will make you laugh... Several years ago when I was a newly wed, I had a whole house full of blank walls. I wanted to have hydrangea paintings in one particular area but I wanted them to be other artists work. I begged my sister-in-law to do a swap but she wasn't having any of it. Finally I bought a nice watercolor online. But I needed two to flank the sofa and didn't have enough to buy another. So I got out the Crayola watercolors and did my best rendition... It actually turned out pretty close. Somehow I doubt that artist would have appreciated my effort though =) Blessings... Polly

ah sweet vincent! an amazing tribute to the tormented artist rebecca!! i've tryed to follow his footsteps since ever, visiting the van gogh museum in amsterdam at its opening in 1974, in search for his soul in arles last may...still looking for more.
a never ending love story!

What a great exercise! And imitating a Van Gogh would be challenging but you did it well. :)

Wow, this is very cool, to see you in process! I think you did a fabulous job, mine would turn out more like Kermit the Frog. You are a gifted lady!

My daughter thinks the world of art starts and stops with Vincent. She would swoon over this painting. I will have to share it with her. AMB, Annie
