Memories

Muse Mita is more of a sprite than anything, very pixyish. Her eyes express so much. She has memories...

She is not stuck in the past, but she does love to curl up with faded photographs and old love letters on occasion. Today is such an occasion...

She recalls her youthful days at the beach with her family...running into the waves with wild abandon...fearless...free...alive with delight...

She remembers her little pink bikini...with a sunflower on the top...playing for hours by the seashore...Coppertone...eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with sandy hands...walking down the beach to Krispy Kream for a warm donut...the Cadillac Court hotel...ocean front rooms...two swimming pools...

She remembers swimming in the hotel pool for
hours...her dad playing with his newest boat-like float...her mother's pink tulle hat that she always wore into the ocean...how her mother always got sunburned, sun poisoning, and sick - in that order...playing beach bingo...cotton candy...going Pavilion at night and watch the gigantic monkey organ band (German Baden Band Organ)...

She remembers sifting for sea shells and shark's teeth by the edge of the sea...building sand castles to the sky...digging and digging with her shovel...making molds with buckets and paper cups...gathering shells to decorate the top of the sand castle...making the moat around the castle...filling it with water...you see all the beach toys were very necessary for construction...

She remembers driving to Little River, North Carolina for seafood...her mother would never eat it...her father loved it...taking her first bite of shrimp...not liking scallops or okra...

She remembers her mother's annual trip to Joan Crosby's...breakfast at the Little Blue Inn next door...ice cold cokes in tiny bottles...chocolate Moon Pies...ice cream cones...salt water taffy...

She remembers...

Today's aMUSEment - what do you remember from your childhood vacations...sit with pencil and paper and write, stream of consciousness memories, no order or reason, just the bits and pieces that made the time yours...

I just spent a week with my Mom, Aunt and Uncle. We had lots of walks down memory lane and a few adventures to creat some new memories.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your childhood. Your love for the ocean is apparent.
